Government of North Dakota

The Government^[1] of North Dakota is divided into three branches the Executive branch, the Legislative branch and the Judiciary branch. The Governor is the head of the Executive Branch. The Legislative Branch of North Dakota consists of the House of Representative and the State Senate. The Supreme Court of North Dakota looks after all the Judicial decisions of the state.

The Executive Branch of North Dakota

The Executive Branch of North Dakota Consists of Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Auditor and Treasurer.

The Governor is the head of the executive Branch of North Dakota. The Governor serves as the commander-in-chief of the military forces of North Dakota. He is also the chairman of the North Dakota Industrial Commission. He also leads all the executive branch offices of the state.

The Lieutenant Governor is the second highest elected official in the state. The Lieutenant Governor serves as the President of the North Dakota Senate, leads the trade office of the state and chairs the Capitol Grounds Planning Commission, the North Dakota State Investment Board, the Northern Plains Unmanned Aircraft Systems Authority and the Higher Education Challenge Fund Commission together with other boards and commissions as the Governor’s representative.

The Judiciary Branch of North Dakota

The Judicial^[3] system of North Dakota consists of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, District Courts, and Municipal Courts. They together form a judicial team who is responsible to provide fair and equal system of justice to the people of North Dakota.

The Court of Appeals of the state only hears the cases assigned to it by the Supreme Court. The court consists of three judges selected from among active and retired district court judges, retired justices of the Supreme Court, and attorneys.
